Open yourself up to magic

I was on a walk last week and found myself looking down at my phone screen instead of enjoying the beauty of nature surrounding me. I had just been listening to a Mel Robbins podcast episode in which one of the take-aways was to open yourself up to magic. I put my phone away and began to admire the bean fields in front of me, the sound of birds chirping, and I thought to myself, "I am open to magic. Please show me a sign." Only a minute later, a monarch butterfly made its appearance a few feet in front of me on the trail. It seemingly flew along the trail, joining my dog and I on our walk. The butterfly landed on a tree branch next to the trail and I examined the design of its wings as I passed by. A few seconds later another monarch butterfly began to do the same thing. As I followed the trail, a new bean field appeared and I began spotting more and more monarch butterflies. There were so many that I decided to start counting them. My total got to nearly 20. Sighting monarchs has been a joy of mine since childhood. As I have gotten older, there have been many efforts to support monarch and bee populations in the community. Last year my dad found a monarch caterpillar in his garden and cared for it until it was able to spread its wings and fly away. My walk that day turned from mindless scrolling or planning the next event or reading another email to a magical experience that also strummed up positive memories and nostalgia. Open yourself up to magic in your daily life. In my experience, when you state your intention and put it out to the world, a response will come; sometimes faster than expected.
